Strokes are the fifth leading cause of death and the leading cause of disability in the United States today. In fact, every 40 seconds, someone in the United States has a stroke and every four minutes, someone dies of stroke. It is estimated worldwide that one out of every four individuals will suffer a stroke during his or her lifetime. To raise greater awareness about strokes and how to identify them, I have introduced a resolution recognizing Oct. 29, 2020, as World Stroke Day in Pennsylvania.

Due to the unprecedented times we are currently experiencing, the General Assembly and the governor agreed upon a $25.8 billion state budget a month before the deadline in order to bring stability to those programs, services and agencies that rely on state funding. In order to provide that stability while also budgeting responsibly, the budget covers the next five months of funding with the exception of education and some human services programs, which are being funded for an entire 12 months.

HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives today passed Senate Bill 1108, which sets the guidelines for the distribution of $2.6 billion in Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding. Under the bill, $625 million would be designated for counties, with Berks County set to receive $38 million and Lehigh County set to receive $33.3 million to help address impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, announced Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Berks/Lehigh).
