Mackenzie Issues Statement on Failure of House Bill 76 Amendment
HARRISBURG – Following lengthy debate late today on an amendment that would have inserted the language of House Bill 76, known as the Property Tax Independence Act, into House Bill 1189, Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Berks/Lehigh) issued the following statement:

“A serious discussion about property tax reform and school funding in Pennsylvania is long overdue. It is essential that we work to implement reforms to make our system of taxation fairer and education funding more equitable.

“The amendment was not perfect, but the issues that were contained in the bill could have been addressed by subsequent amendments. Therefore, I voted in favor the House Bill 76 language to advance the discussion and debate about property tax reform.

Even though the amendment failed, I will continue to work to address the issue of burdensome property taxes and unfair education funding. I look forward to seeking solutions to our property tax and education funding challenges.”
