Apply Now for 2018 Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program
2/12/2019
By Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Lehigh/Berks)
Property taxes continue to place a heavy financial burden on many Pennsylvania citizens, but perhaps none more than seniors and those with disabilities living on fixed incomes. To help meet their property tax obligations, the state operates the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program.

The program allows eligible participants to receive a rebate of up to $650 based on the rent or property taxes they paid the previous calendar year. It benefits eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 years or older, widows and widowers 50 years or older, and those 18 years or older with disabilities.

Eligibility income limits for homeowners are set at the following levels, excluding 50 percent of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, and Railroad Retirement Tier 1 benefits:

• $0 to $8,000, maximum $650 rebate (homeowners and renters).
• $8,001 to $15,000, maximum $500 rebate (homeowners and renters).
• $15,001 to $18,000, maximum $300 rebate (homeowners only).
• $18,001 to $35,000, maximum $250 rebate (homeowners only).

Certain supplemental rebates can boost homeowner rebates up to $975. The supplemental rebates are automatically calculated by the Department of Revenue for qualifying homeowners.

Applications for the program are now available and my district office staff can assist with completing the forms at no charge. Applicants should be prepared to provide all the necessary income, property tax or rental information required to process claims quickly and accurately. Copies of the forms are available at my district office, located at 3402 Brookside Road, Macungie, or online at RepMackenzie.com under the “Property Tax Rent Rebate Applications” banner in the center of the page.

The deadline to apply is June 30.

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is one of five programs supported by the Pennsylvania Lottery. Since the program’s 1971 inception, older and adults with disabilities have received more than $6.9 billion in property tax and rent relief. The rebate program also receives funding from slots gaming.
