Mackenzie: Wolf Budget Address a ‘Missed Opportunity’
HARRISBURG – Following Gov. Tom Wolf’s annual budget address today at the Capitol, Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Berks/Lehigh) issued the following statement:

“The governor’s address was a missed opportunity for Tom Wolf to build consensus with legislators on how best to address the key issues important to Pennsylvanians, like education, job creation, protecting taxpayers, and caring for our fellow citizens with special needs.

“Rather than charting a path forward to reach commonsense budget solutions, the governor seemed more interested in giving a political speech designed to cast legislators in an unfavorable light. That’s disappointing.

“Although he didn’t talk directly about the budget, documents released by the Wolf administration indicate that the governor will be asking for $2.7 billion in new taxes, funded primarily by an 11 percent increase in the Personal Income Tax. This sounds very familiar to a plan he introduced last year that lacked support among both Democrats and Republicans in the Legislature. I hope the governor will be more open to compromise than his speech and initial proposal indicate.”
