Mackenzie to Serve on Four Standing House Committees
1/15/2013
HARRSIBURG — State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Berks/Lehigh) today announced that he has been appointed by Speaker of the House Sam Smith (R-Jefferson/Armstrong/Indiana) to serve on the House Labor and Industry, Commerce, Tourism and Recreational Development and Gaming Oversight committees during the 2013-14 legislative session.

“I want to thank Speaker Smith for naming me to these important committees that ultimately help benefit businesses and residents of the Commonwealth,” said Mackenzie. “I especially look forward to working closely with other lawmakers on the Labor and Industry and Commerce committees to work toward boosting Pennsylvania’s business climate and economy.”

With Mackenzie’s background as former director of policy with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, he brings expertise to the House Labor and Industry Committee, which has oversight of the Department of Labor and Industry, State Civil Service Commission, Labor Relations Board and Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board, among others.

One of the more timely committees in the House given our nation’s challenging economy is the Commerce Committee, which is responsible for oversight of economic development and banking issues throughout the Commonwealth.

Similarly, because tourism is the state’s second-leading industry and one of its largest revenue producers and job creators, this term, the House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee plans to market the state in a better and more efficient manner to create more jobs and bring more money into Pennsylvania.

“While each of these committees play different roles in varying industries across Pennsylvania, each of them shares a common goal of improving Pennsylvania’s economy and protecting our taxpayers’ dollars,” Mackenzie said.
