Mackenzie Takes Oath of Office
HARRISBURG – Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Berks/Lehigh) today took the oath of office officially beginning his tenure representing the citizens of the 134th District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

“As representative, I will fulfill my oath to uphold our constitution and make it my top priority to always listen to and serve the people of the 134th District, who have placed their confidence in me as their voice in Harrisburg,” said Mackenzie.

Mackenzie won a special election in April to complete the 2011-12 term after Judge Doug Reichley was elected to serve on the Lehigh County Court of Common Pleas. Reichley administered the oath of office to the six new House members sworn in today.

To ensure continuity of constituent service, Mackenzie will maintain Reichley’s former district office located at 1245 Chestnut St., Unit 5, in Emmaus. Residents can contact the office at (610) 965-9933 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Prior to his election to the House of Representatives, Mackenzie served as director of policy at the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. There, he was instrumental in building the legislative compromise on Act 6 of 2011, which will save approximately $120 million per year for the state’s Unemployment Compensation Trust Fund and the taxpayers who pay into the system. It also instituted much-needed unemployment compensation reforms.

Mackenzie noted he hopes to continue his efforts to introduce measures that will save taxpayers money, help create jobs, and eliminate fraud.

“My focus as representative will be on the issues that the people of the 134th District have told me are important to them: reinvigorating our economy, supporting job creators, and containing the cost of government so tax dollars can be used to fund priorities like education,” said Mackenzie. “As we work to rebuild our economy, we must constantly look for ways to reduce waste in the public sector and help government to serve citizens more efficiently.”

“The problems we face know no party lines,” continued Mackenzie. “That is why I will work with anyone willing to bring good ideas and needed compromise to meeting the challenges we face as a state and community.”

Mackenzie is a native of the Lehigh Valley. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and international business from New York University and earned his Master in Business Administration at Harvard University.
