HARRISBURG – State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Lehigh/Berks) has recently been appointed to serve on the following House standing committees: Labor and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Commerce, and Environmental Resources and Energy. In addition, he will serve as vice chairman of the Labor and Industry Committee and as chairman of the Subcommittee on Financial Services and Banking under the Commerce Committee.

“I am pleased to once again be serving on the House Labor and Industry Committee. With my previous experience working at both the state and federal departments of labor, I have a keen interest in this area and enjoy applying my knowledge of labor market dynamics to help craft legislation to bolster Pennsylvania businesses and the people they employ,” said Mackenzie.

The Labor and Industry Committee focuses on issues impacting jobs across the state. Legislation the committee deals with includes unemployment compensation, workforce development, child labor laws and workers’ compensation.

“I will also be returning to the Commerce Committee, which dovetails nicely with the Labor and Industry Committee and the overall ability of businesses to locate and grow here in Pennsylvania,” said Mackenzie.

The Commerce Committee deals with issues pertaining to economic development, housing and financial development.

“I remain committed to protecting Pennsylvania taxpayers, and the issues the Consumer Affairs Committee handles will help me address some of the most pertinent issues that impact residents every day,” said Mackenzie.

The House Consumer Affairs Committee handles legislation involving public utilities, including water, gas, electric, and telecommunications. The committee interacts with the Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, Public Utility Commission, Office of Consumer Advocate and the Office of Small Business Advocate and addresses legislative remedies to matters involving landlord and tenant rights, unfair trade practices and various consumer complaints and scams.

“Taking care of our open spaces and natural resources is paramount, and the Environmental Resources and Energy Committee covers a multitude of these issues,” said Mackenzie, who will be returning as a member of the committee.

“At the committee stage is where legislation is shaped and vetted before going to a vote before the full House of Representatives,” concluded Mackenzie. “All of these committees will be holding meetings within the coming weeks to start the legislative process for the 2019-20 session,”

Recognized in the caucus as a workforce development leader, Mackenzie has also been appointed to represent the House of Representatives on the Pennsylvania Workforce Development Board, the Aggregate Advisory Board and the Pennsylvania Economic Development Financing Authority.
