– State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Lehigh/Berks) and Sen. Pat Browne (R-Lehigh) are once again partnering with The Ben Event to host a Special Needs Awareness Day on Saturday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Macungie Memorial Park, 50 N. Poplar St. in Macungie
“We were able to reach a lot of people last year during this event, and it is my hope we will have even more attendees this year,” said Mackenzie. “Families and other supporters of individuals with special needs benefit from having so much great information all in one place. The event also serves to connect people in the area going through similar situations and allows them to share their stories, struggles, and successes with one another.”
Special Needs Awareness Day offers important and helpful information on service and programs available to the special needs community from local, state and federal resources. Dozens of providers will be on hand to offer information and answer attendees’ questions.
“I appreciate the chance to once again partner with Rep. Mackenzie and the Ben Event to provide our constituents with an opportunity to learn more about programs and services available to children and adults with special needs,” Sen. Browne said. “The Commonwealth has made extraordinary commitments to our citizens with disabilities by providing the necessary resources to assist those with special needs achieve independence.”
The lawmakers also noted that in the recently enacted 2018-19 state budget, funding was included to help an additional 965 individuals living with intellectual disabilities who are on waiting lists for services.
Special Needs Awareness Day is being sponsored by Lehigh Valley Health Network and Good Shepherd Rehabilitation.
